Obituary for Barbara Ann Walsh

Barbara Ann Walsh
Barbara Ann Walsh died peacefully at her home on 27 Bristol Street, Hartford, CT on September 23, 2015 at the age of 87. Barbara was born on February 7, 1928 in Hartford, CT and was the loving daughter of the late Laura H. (Wohllebe) Walsh and John M. Walsh. Barbara is survived by her brother, John F. Walsh and his wife Joan A. Walsh of Bolton, CT and her sister-in-law Jeanne Walsh of Vero Beach, FL. She leaves many loving nieces and nephews; including, Michael & Denise Walsh of Tolland, CT, Laura Moske of Bolton, CT, Tim & Ann Walsh of Bolton, CT, Cori & Peter Loescher of Walpole, MA, Shaune & Dolan Barry of Shrewsbury, MA, Maura Walsh & husband Dean Brisbi of Houston, TX, Mark Walsh and his partner Bryan Rafanelli of Boston, MA, Matthew & Lisa Walsh of Norwood, MA, Larry Walsh, Jr. of New Britain, CT, Jay Walsh of Sacramento, CA and Patrick Walsh of Elmore, VT. She is preceded in death by her five brothers, Richard W. Walsh and his wife Frances Walsh of East Hartford, CT, Ronald F. Walsh and his wife Denise Walsh of Marston’s Mills, MA, Laurence T. Walsh of Killingworth, CT, and her infant brothers Philip and Paul Walsh as well as her niece, Doreen Bergeron of Carlsbad, CA. Barbara was a life-long resident of the city of Hartford, spending the majority of her young life in the North End where she and her brothers were members of the Saint Michaels Girls and Boys Brigade. She was proud of her “rough and tumble” brothers, all of whom served in the United States Army from 1950-1954, “Korean War”. Barbara graduated from Weaver High School and attended Teachers College of Connecticut in New Britain, graduating in 1949 with a degree in the field of education. Barbara dedicated her life to her love of teaching and taught in the Hartford Public Schools for forty-one years. Barbara was an accomplished seamstress, making much of her own wardrobe. She was also very gifted in the arts of quilting and crewel embroidery. During her lifetime she created over forty quilts and many wonderful works of embroidery to be shared and cherished by her family. In addition to quilting, Barbara was a passionate gardener, creating beautiful flower gardens for all to enjoy. She was an active and dedicated member of the St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church since 1950. Barbara loved the simple joys of life, especially watching a UConn women’s basketball game while enjoying Munson’s chocolates. She will be missed by all of those whose lives she has touched and will certainly, according to her brother John, be on the “fast track” to heaven while only stopping to gather flowers of her choosing, such as the red roses that adorned her beautiful garden. The family would like to express its gratitude to Michael and Denise Walsh for their unending support, love and devotion to Barbara during her great time of need. Family will receive relatives and friends at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, CT on Friday, September 25 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Funeral procession will be Saturday, September 26, 9:00 am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, 494 New Britain Avenue, Hartford, CT at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
