Frank G. Janis, 68, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Kathy (Tierney) Janis of 43 years, passed away suddenly on December 16, 2015. Born in Torrington, CT on January 7, 1947, he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Janis. He studied Engineering at the University of Connecticut and was employed by the Maguire Group in New Britain, CT for twenty years upon completing his studies. Since 1991, Frank was employed as a Senior Specialist - Piping Designer on Trident and Virginia Class Submarines at Electric Boat, a division of General Dynamics. Frank was an avid rail-trail biking enthusiast, enjoyed gardening at home as well as in West Hartford’s Buena Vista community garden and traveling to sunny destinations with his wife. He could often be found hiking in the West Harford Reservoir. He was a long time communicant of St. Helena’s Church in West Hartford. In addition to his wife Kathy, Frank will be dearly missed by his two sons, Michael Trevor (Elizabeth) Janis of Westport, CT, and Matthew (Meghan) Janis of West Hartford. He leaves three cherished grandchildren, Connor, Devon and Weston; his sister, Arlene (Bernie) Gura of Wethersfield, CT; his sister, Louise (Gary) Coffey of White Oak, TX; his sister Barbara Benedict of Litchfield, CT and was pre-deceased by his sister Jean (William) Hansell of Vienna, VA. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Tierney of West Hartford, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday, December 20th, 2015 from 4-6 PM at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, CT. A procession will depart the funeral home at 10:15AM on Monday, December, 21ST, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Helena’s Church, 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford, CT. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford. The family would like to express their gratitude to West Harford’s first responders who assisted on Frank’s behalf.
