Obituary for Lawrence F. "Larry" Fagan, Jr.

Lawrence F. "Larry" Fagan, Jr.
Lawrence “Larry” F. Fagan, Jr. of West Hartford, loving husband, father, brother, uncle and son, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in his home with his family by his side. Larry was born March 15, 1959 to Lawrence F. Fagan, Sr. and Aline (Soucy) Fagan. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows grammar school and graduated from South Catholic High School in 1977. Larry graduated from BC in 1981. He played intramural softball at BC, where he received the “best outfielder” distinction. This skill transitioned well into fatherhood with endless hours of wiffle ball in his backyard with his three children. Larry is most well known for loving and enjoying his family. He received the nickname “the radius,” as he was rarely seen to travel beyond a 10-20 mile radius from home. He enjoyed following the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Green Bay Packers. Larry was a professional practical joker and lover of all things silly. If you knew Larry, you knew laughter and goofing around was a prerequisite to his friendship. Larry’s unique ability to balance comedy with intellectual pursuits combined to produce the most unique and effective teaching style known to his RHAM high school students. He will be remembered by his students for things like Fluffernutter Day, Buzzard Day (3/15), Perception Goggle Olympics, weekly “Pienalists” and the fictitious Pisces Club, just to name a few. Larry enjoyed summer vacations on the Cape. His favorite Disney rides were Tower of Terror (he loved to instigate getting everyone on the ride screaming) and Soar’in (he said it was peaceful). Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Susan (Malcolm) Fagan and his three cherished children, Raymond, Claire and Noel. He leaves his four sisters and their spouses: Marita Eppler (Jack), Jeannine Marotto (Bill), Colleen Clifford (Rick) and Amy Clark (Andy). He also leaves many nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law, Lorraine Malcolm and sister-in-law, Lisa Malcolm. Larry wants to thank everyone for all of the love and support during this challenging year, especially his devoted family, RHAM family, and many friends and neighbors from all aspects of his life. Thank you also to Dana Farber Neuro-Oncology, Hartford Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, Interim Healthcare and Masonicare for their excellent care. And last, but not least, Larry would like to thank his devoted dog, Kibby, for being by his side every step of the way. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10am at St. Patrick St. Anthony, 285 Church Street, Hartford CT , everyone is asked to meet directly at Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 3pm-6pm at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to the Larry Fagan Scholarship Fund (a scholarship for RHAM students) at 85 Wall Street, Hebron CT 06248.
