Edward J. Dauphinais, 90, of Farmington, CT, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 19, 2017. He was born in Hartford, the son of the late Victor and Bernadette Dauphinais, and grew up in West Hartford. He attended LaSallette Seminary, including two years of college in Altamont, NY. He served in the Korean War in the Army Medical Corps and as a chaplain’s assistant. After his tour of duty, he graduated with a B.A. from Hillyer College. He went on to earn a master’s degree in library science from Simmons College in Boston, MA. After graduating, Ed enjoyed a varied and interesting career in library work. He was employed by Hartford Public Library, United Technology (UAC Research Lab) and Hamilton Standard. After moving to Lee, NH, he was employed by the State of New Hampshire. He was appointed the librarian at the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of New Hampshire, and served in that role for 20 years until his retirement in 1988. He then returned to Connecticut, residing in Farmington. He was a communicant at St. Patrick Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Uncas Council 32. Ed had a warm smile, an affable nature and always made others feel welcome. He especially enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid gardener and a devoted Cleveland Indians fan. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Ed is survived by Janet (Helm) Dauphinais, his wife of 59 years; children, John (Asteria) of Chester, NH, Peter (Lauren) of Leesburg, VA, Matthew of Durham, NH and Grace (Michael) Fogarty of Barrington, NH; and grandchildren Elena and Ian Dauphinais, Celia Fogarty, and William and Anne Dauphinais. Surviving siblings include sisters, Claire Acquaotta of Windsor Locks, CT, Therese (John) O’Hare of Wethersfield, CT, Anne Marie Sparmer of Niantic, CT, and Mary (Richard) Attanasio of Cortland Manor, NY, and brother Victor Dauphinais of Windsor, CT. Funeral procession will be Monday, (January 23), 10:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am at St. Patrick Church, 110 Main St., Farmington, CT. Calling hours will be from 9 to10:30 am at the funeral home prior to the mass. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
