Obituary for Anne M. Roy (Tarpinian)

Anne M. Roy (Tarpinian)
Anne M. (Tarpinian) Roy, 81, of Newington passed peacefully at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her loving family on February 5, 2017. Anne was born on December 1, 1935 in Boston, MA to the late Albert and Irene (Scanlon) Tarpinian. She grew up in Chelsea and graduated from St. Rose High School in 1953. Anne continued her education obtaining her nursing diploma from Chelsea Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and began her career there until she met Phil, her husband of almost 55 years at the Irish American Club in East Boston. The two married on St. Patrick’s Day and settled in CT. They made their home in the Elmwood section of West Hartford for many years and were communicants of St. Brigid Church. Anne was an active part of the St. Brigid family where her four children obtained their elementary education and shared membership in the Ladies Guild, St. Christopher’s Mother’s Circle, Home School Association and Girl Scouts. Once her children began school, Anne returned to work as a pediatric nurse for many years, retiring just prior to Newington Children’s Hospital moving to Hartford to become the new CCMC. Despite retirement, Anne continued to provide nurturing care and guidance to her grandchildren that loved her so much. Along the years, Anne acquired many friendships and acquaintances to which she has remained close through monthly retirees luncheons, annual school reunions, Christmas parties at Jean’s and summer weekends at Nancy G.’s house on Cape Cod with the old Chelsea girls and monthly meetings with the CT Chapter Hummel Club. Anne’s greatest legacy however, was her family of which she was so proud of, always sharing their successes, pictures and updates. She enjoyed all birthday and holiday gatherings, Cookie Day, weekends at the summer cottage with the Albert’s, sports games, plays and concerts of her children and grandchildren and was anxiously waiting for her first grandson’s wedding to take place this fall. Anne provided many selfless acts of caring and unconditional love. Her faith was her rock and her Blessed Mother candle lit daily with prayers for many. Anne lived her life by the principles she valued most, Be the better person, Actions speak louder than words, Turn the other cheek and Family first and firmly believed God did not give you anything you couldn’t handle. Anne leaves behind her loving husband Philip J. Roy, three daughters, Michelle Eldridge and her husband James of Newington, Denise Roy of Southington, and Suzanne Guglietta and her husband Michael of Ellington and a son, Paul Roy and his wife Christine of Newington. She was Nana to five grandchildren, Steven Eldridge, Meghan Eldridge, Paul Guglietta, Daniel Roy and Julia Roy. In addition, Anne is survived by her brother Albert Tarpinian of Walloston, MA, her two sister-in-laws, Randee Albert of New Britain and Nancy Dignazio of West Hartford along with a circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Tarpinian and Alice Pawlak of Melrose, MA. Relatives sand friends may join the family for calling hours on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 5-8pm at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 10am at St. Brigid Church in West Hartford. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, 855 Asylum Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105, Attn: Donations, as Anne so much appreciated this organization’s help given to her father as a young boy when he immigrated from Armenia to the US during the genocide period.
