Obituary for Stephen O'Brien

Stephen O'Brien
Stephen O’Brien, 54 of West Hartford, passed away on March 9, 2017. He grew up in West Hartford, graduated from Conard High School, and earned his A.S. from Middlesex Community College. He spent most of his working life in property management in various capacities, with his longest tenure at Hallkeen Management as a property manager in the Boston area. Steve was Mr. Fix -it to his friends, family and co-workers. If anything broke from cars to computers, “Better Call Steve” was the first thing out of our mouths and he would always say “If I can’t fix it, it ain’t broke”. His dry wit and ability to bring a smile to the saddest face was legendary. In a Seinfeldesque way he saw the humor in everything. He was a die-hard BoSox and Patriots fan even in their darkest hours. He also loved barbecuing (he took his famous buffalo wings recipe with him to share with the angels), growing vegetables, camping and The Grateful Dead. Most of all he loved being with his family and friends. He leaves behind his beloved son Chris and fiancé Colleen, and their sons Carter and Cameron of Colchester; step-daughter Debbie and husband Edward Arruda of MA and their children Andrew, Meghan and, Danny; his father Bob of West Hartford; his sisters Jane O’Brien of MA, and Bobbie Stimpson and her husband Al of West Simsbury; nieces and nephews Katie, John, Graham, Lily, Tim, Garret, Drew, Ted and Gennie and many dear friends, especially Jim, Greg, Laurie, Julie and their families. He was predeceased by his mother Ceil. We will miss him greatly. Steve’s family will receive relatives and friends at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford on Sunday, (March 12), from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, (March 13), at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford, with interment following at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Steve’s memory to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, Norwalk, CT. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
