Obituary for David W Swicker

David W. Swicker, 93, of Bloomfield passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday March 29, 2017. He was the beloved husband of 47 years to his late “sweetest sweetheart” Inger T. (Svensson) Swicker. David was born on October 21, 1923 to Harold B. Swicker and Helen (Whitcomb) Swicker in Guilford, Maine. He grew up in Chester, MA, a small Berkshire town, graduating in the High School Class of 1941. After a year at Mount Herman School, he entered Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the Navy B-12 program, graduating in 1946 with a master’s degree in Engineering. As a US Navy Lieutenant, JG he proudly served in WWII in the Pacific. He entered the business community with Factory Insurance Associates later to become Industrial Risk Insurers. He retired as Assistant Vice President in 1988. He was a long-time member of the Golf Club of Avon and West Hartford Squires, participating in their duck pin bowling and golf leagues. A talented woodworker, he made fine pieces of furniture and engaged in whittling wood carving. His carving caricatures are scattered all over with friends and family. David leaves behind a brother Donald Swicker in South Deerfield, MA his wife Rachel, niece Amy and husband David Barker and their two children Zoey and Zachary. He wishes to thank Chalke Raineau, her friend Tom and Julie and Lowell Fewster for accepting him into their family for many years. Special thanks, love and appreciation to his grandnephew Gary Hunt (wife Kathy) and his niece Donna Swanson (husband Fred Evans) for all they have done for him in his journey through life. There will be no calling hours and funeral arrangements are private. Burial will be at the family grave in Townsend, MA. The Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford, CT has charge of arrangements.
