Obituary for Donald Robert Morander

Donald Robert Morander
Donald Robert Morander of West Hartford, passed on into the light on June 6, 2017. He was born in Hartford, CT on July 14,1942, the son of Ruth Lauritzen and Carl Morander and resided in West Hartford for the majority of his life. For those lucky enough to have known him, they can attest to his loving and caring nature, his generosity, his sense of humor and animated story telling. A great friend and friend to many, Don wouldn't hesitate to help one in need or merely take the time to spend with them. Don enjoyed many activities during his time here including sailing, billiards, snowmobiling, skiing, and golf, spending many days with the Men’s Club at Rockledge G.C. He belonged to the Free Masons and the Shriners organizations. Fittingly, as a member of the Funsters clown unit, he frequently visited children at the Shriners' hospitals in Springfield and Boston and was involved in the Shrine Circus and various parades for years. As a big kid himself, his patience and humor made him a wonderful teacher, no matter if the kids were his own or not, young or old. His grandkids were the center of his world and he always made time for them. Quite the character and defined by an unmatched work ethic, he was an intelligent, confident and intuitive President of Ceda Company, working there for 54 years. He lived his life on his terms, in his own time and enjoyed himself all the while. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia; son Derek and his wife Danielle; daughter Dawn and her partner Jason Reilly; brother Allen; sister Ann; “son” Jeffery Ostrout; grandkids Ethan and Maia, as well as extended family and many good friends. Calling hours are from 1 – 4pm on Sunday, (June 11) , at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. A Funeral Service will be Monday, (June 12) at 11am, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a donation in Don's honor to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
