Obituary for John J. Griffin

John J. Griffin, 67, of Vernon died suddenly Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at his home. He was born in Hartford on August 4, 1949, son of the late Michael and Sheila Griffin. He was a graduate and four year member of the football team at South Catholic High School in Hartford. He has resided in Vernon for many years. John was employed at Colt Fire Arms and for 33 years had worked for the United States Post Office as a mail handler, retiring in 2013. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division. He was an avid Yankee fan, New York Giant fan, a motorcyclist and enjoyed photography. He was a patriot who loved his flag and his country. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. Griffin Jr. and his wife Victoria of Wethersfield and Christopher M. Griffin and his wife Alexis of East Hartford; his daughter and son-in-law, Loren and Bryan Dickey of Wethersfield, and their mother, Josephine Griffin of South Windsor; a brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Marie Griffin of Cromwell, a sister, Mary (Griffin) Gustafson of West Hartford and two grandsons, Nolan J. Griffin and Declan R. Griffin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Michael Griffin and Daniel Griffin. Funeral Services will be Saturday, (June 17) at 10:00 am at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. Interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
