Our Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, Dorothy Castellani, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2017 at her home in Hartford, Connecticut. She was 86 years old. Dorothy was born in Cumberland, Virginia August 6, 1930 to the late Albert F. and Elizabeth D. Pipjunge. She was one of ten children.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her late husband Alfred Castellani Sr, and son Richard Castellani; brothers, James Pipjunge and Henry Pipjunge; sisters, Elizabeth Brown, Hazel Speas, Mildred Black, Audrey Smith, and Francis Pipjunge. She is survived by her son Alfred Castellani, Jr. and his wife Linda; daughter-in-law Lori Castellani; granddaughters, Sarah Mike and her husband Patrick, and Ashley Castellani; grandsons, Alfred Castellani III, Richard Castellani and his wife Jessica; great-grandchildren, Addison Mike, Braden Mike, and Isabell Castellani; a brother Gaylord Pipjunge; a sister Faye Irbe, and a brother-in-law Dino Castellani and his wife Patricia.
Dorothy was retired from the United Tool and Die Company. She was an avid gardener and had a passion for flowers especially roses. Her garden was always beautiful. Dorothy, coming from the south, was an excellent cook. Marrying into an Italian family she didn’t skip a beat. Her Sunday dinners were unbelievable. She will be missed by everyone that knew her. The Family would like to thank all the people who helped care for Dorothy during her illness, especially Sandra Tardette, Joanne Weeks, Dorothy’s longtime aide, and the team at Vitas Hospice. Angels are real.
Funeral procession will be Tuesday, (July 18), 10:15 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave., Hartford CT. Burial will be at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery. Bloomfield. Calling hour will be prior to the funeral from 9:00 to 10:15 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
