Obituary for Michelangelo "Mike" Zullo

Michelangelo “Mike” Zullo, 54, of the Elmwood section of West Hartford, passed away Sunday, (August 13, 2017) surround by family and friends at Saint Francis Hospital. Born September 27, 1962 the son of Paolo and Fiorinda Zullo. Mike was an energetic strong willed man. He spent many years involved in the West Hartford Basketball Program. He coached many kids and made some amazing friends and memories. He also was a long-time member of the UNICO Hartford Chapter, he was proud of his Italian heritage. Mike was known to many a jokester he always used to make everyone laugh and give some a hard time, but he made everyone smile. Mike was an avid golfer and loved running golf tournaments. He volunteered at Saint Brigid School and started their own tournament that still runs to this day. Mike also started the Ricotta Golf Tournament, his own tournament with his friends, he always looked forward to a good day on the courses. He is survived by his loving mother Fiorinda; his sister Antonietta “Toni” Carreira and her husband Paul of West Hartford. He leaves two nieces, Kristina and Sabrina who he loved and took great pride in. He also leaves many friends and family that he so passionately cared about. Once you were Mikes friend you instantly become part of his family. He will be greeted at the gates of heaven by his father Paolo. His family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Saint Francis Hospital, to all the doctors and nurses who cared for him, he kept them smiling. To Dr. Michael Moustakakis of Greater Hartford Nephrology and his staff, as well as the nurses at Devita Dialysis, thank you for all you did to give Mike comfort in his battle. Calling hours will be Friday (August 18), from 4-8pm at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford. Funeral procession will be Saturday, (August 19), at 10:15am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11am at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mike Zullo Scholarship Award for West Hartford Youth Basketball at www.whybl.org.
