Condolence From: watson morrison
Condolence: It does not seem possible that Ray Hanson is now gone .
I was his assistant when he was chair of the Hartt School piano department for so many years.
I knew him very well

Ray was a superb pianist and teacher .
He was one of the people that built the Hartt School .
He possessed the highest of standards , setting an example not only for the Hartt piano department but for the whole Hartt School .

Ray was also a very kind person to all those he knew , often calling me every week after I had suffered several surgical procedures just to see how I was doing .

Ray was a great person who will be sorely missed at the Hartt School and to all those who knew him .
However , his legacy will remain an inspiration to all of us .

Watson Morrison

Condolence From: Bob Groff
Condolence: I was a student at Hartt between 1968-1972. Ray Hanson was one of the best liked professors. One particular memory: My friend Malcom and I were hanging around in Ray's studio when he said something along the lines of “what are we doing inside on such a nice day”. He then produced a bat and a ball, and we went out back, and Mal and I shagged as Ray hit. He easily caught our long throws with a hardball bare-handed. I remember thinking “this guy makes his living playing the piano”. That was Ray.

Condolence: I was very sad to read of the passing of my former piano teacher, Ray Hanson. I became one of his students at the age of 16 until I graduated from Hartt College in 1960. He was a wonderful teacher. We have kept in touch all of these years and he was my dear friend as well. He never lost his sense of humor and our calls always ended with one of his many jokes. I will miss him dearly. My condolences to his loving family.

Condolence: Ray Hanson was already legendary when I arrived at the University of Hartford in 1988. He was one of those who made Hartt into a leading US school of music -- and who has bequeathed to us generations of accomplished musicians to carry the torch forward.

Condolence: As a member of the University of Hartford team, I got to know Ray over the past three years and visited him often when I traveled home to see my own family in Franklin County. I always felt welcomed the moment I entered his home, and during our chats I could expect wonderful piano ensembles on CD of his own work gently playing in the background. He loved to reminisce and show me photos of the old days at Hartt, and his witty demeanor always made me smile.I will truly miss my visits with him, and feel privileged to have been able to get to know him on behalf of UHart.

Condolence: I have many fond memories of Ray, primarily from when I was a student at Hartt in the early 70's. A beautiful person.

Condolence From: Mark Kasmin
Condolence: Sending my sincere condolences to Ray's entire family. What a remarkable gentleman he truly was. He and Anne were such a team and such a pleasure to be with. Anne played recitals at my parish in Fairfield twice in the 80's and Ray was right there cheering her on. Now......their souls are once again united and making music for our Lord.
