Maria Emilia Mendes Duarte of West Hartford passed into internal rest on November 20, 2017 with her family at her side. Born in Rio de Mel, Portugal, she was a long time resident of Hartford and West Hartford. Besides her late husband, Joseph, she was preceded by six siblings. She loved cooking, sewing and spent a great amount of time in her ever blooming garden. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima, Hartford. Maria Emilia was a doting mother and grandmother who enjoyed having her family visit.
She leaves four children, Manuel and his wife Piedade of West Hartford, Mario Jorge of West Hartford, Jose Fernando and his wife Fatima of South Windsor, A. Tony and his wife Teresa (Teri) of Rocky Hill; two stepchildren, Germano and his wife Fernanda of Newington, Olinda Lopes of Wethersfield; ten grandchildren, Anabela, Rose, Julio, Paula, Emanuel, Tina, Cristina, Paul, Andrew and Ashley; four step grandchildren, Maria, Antonio, Daniel and Angela; fourteen great grandchildren and eleven step great grandchildren.
The family expresses gratitude to the B10I Staff at Hartford Hospital for their loving care during Maria Emilia’s last days.
Funeral procession will be Friday, (Nov. 24), 10:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be from 9:00 to 10:30 am prior to the funeral procession at the funeral home. Donations can be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
