Obituary for Antonio S. Marques

Antonio S. Marques, 92, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Maria G. Marques passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 21, 2017. Born in Vale Maior, Albergaria-A-Velha, Portugal, he immigrated to the United States in 1948. He was a resident of East Hartford since 1964. Besides his wife, Antonio is survived by his son, David Marques, daughter-in-law, Luisa Marques and two grandsons, Alex and Andrew Marques; a brother, Ernest Marques and sister, Benny Pemberton; and many loving nieces and nephews who cared for him.
Antonio is predeceased by his brothers, Jose, Bill, Carlos, Manuel and John Marques; sisters Maria Oneide Tavares, Helen Escobar, Pam Rockholt, and Maria Macedo Marques.
Antonio was a passionate gardener. He looked forward to tilling the soil and nurturing his prized tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers and kale along with his assortment of fruit trees. His goal was to grow an abundance of food to share with family, friends and neighbors. He was also a collector of tools and re-purposed them in many creative ways. In his earlier years, he was an avid fisherman and made his own wine. Antonio enjoyed the outdoors and building things including many of the roads and highways in the Hartford area where he was a construction supervisor at Tomasso for most of his career. Antonio was also involved in the Portuguese Rancho Folklorico Dance Group which he considered his extended family.
The family would want to thank the good team of doctors and nurses that cared for him over the years including Dr. Jeffrey Laut, Dr. Vichot, Dr. Perkins and their staff.
