Obituary for Francis J. Costello

Francis Joseph Costello, of West Hartford, he was the beloved husband of the late Ursula Hauschulz Costello.
Francis Joseph Costello's life was very much like the headlines on the covers of the New York Post: noteworthy, ornery, and absolutely full of good humor. Born to Irish immigrants, the late Francis Costello and Alice Dalton Costello on May 3, 1936, he left us at his home on December 9, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. He loved the City of Hartford and lived there or close-by most of his life attending St. Joseph's Cathedral and Hartford High School. He then served in the US Army where he met his wife Ursula in Germany. They were married for 26 years up until the time of her death in 1984. Francis worked at the Hartford Post Office for 30 years (and not a day more) and spent much time after his retirement walking the banks of the Connecticut River where he worked as a Park Ranger for Riverfront Recapture.
He was an avid reader and loved to begin his day reading both the New York Times and the New York Post, especially at Elizabeth Park. He enjoyed shopping at Macy’s and raising a glass or two at the Moose Club in Hartford while watching his beloved NY Giants, baseball games or talking politics. He loved meeting new people and befriended strangers wherever he went from the shorelines of Hammonasset Beach to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. He is greatly loved and will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by son and daughter in-law, Frank and Gena Costello of West Suffield; his daughters, Gabriele Hauschulz and her partner Lori Autorino of Andover and Christine Costello of Jackson, NH; his grandchildren: Theresa Morales of Vernon, Kelly Costello of Brooklyn, NY, Caitlin Costello of West Suffield; his great grandchildren: Christina Boudreau of Vernon and cousins: Mary Kristoff and Butch Clark of Stafford Springs, as well as many relatives in Westmeath County Ireland.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Larry Costello.
The family of Francis Costello would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Icyline Henry, his devoted caregiver who was an absolute angel in our eyes, Angel Touch Home health care aides, Interim Healthcare caregivers, the entire Hospice team from Hartford Health Care at home, West Hartford Fellowship and many, many family friends for all of the care, love and support. Without them, Francis would not have been able to live his last 19 months at home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Francis Costello’s name to Westmoor Park in West Hartford, CT.
