Obituary for Nicholas O. "Nick" Russo Sr.
Nicholas O. Russo, Sr., age 83, of Newington, CT., died suddenly on Saturday, December 23, 2017, surrounded by his family.
Born in Wilmington, N.C., he resided in the Hartford area for most of his life. He was a manufacturing engineer, who also held a Master's degree and most recently retired from Hobson-Motzer Corp. Durham, CT. in 2004.
He served the Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister for several years and was a loving husband, father, and family man. He leaves his beloved wife of 59 years, a retired City of Hartford school teacher of 32 years, Patricia A. Russo, a son Nicholas O. Russo, Jr., two daughters and their husbands, Lynne R. Kirby and Kevin Kirby of Wethersfield, CT., Catherine M. Saxon and Peter Saxon of S. Windsor, CT., his twin sister Patricia A. DiDonato and her husband John Sr., of Manchester, CT. He was predeceased by his oldest sister Rose Marie Johnson of Coventry, CT. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Nicholas O. Russo III and his wife Alissa, Kevin, Jonathan, Kathleen & Emily Kirby, Caitlyn & Benjamin Saxon and two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Sophia Russo.
Calling hours will be held at the Sheehan Breen Hilborn Funeral Home 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford on Thursday December 28, 2017, from 4PM to 7PM and all family and friends are invited to attend.
The funeral procession will be held Friday December 29, 2017, 10:30AM at the funeral home, followed by a mass of Christian burial at The Holy Spirit Church, Newington, CT. at 11:30AM. Burial will be in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer's Association.
