Sophie (Tulenko) Dzienis , 96, of Southbury, CT and formerly of Hartford, beloved wife of the late Charles Dzienis, loving mother of Charles Jr. and John, and grandmother of Forest, Sky and Mariah, mother -in-law of John Cavanagh, passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, peacefully after a long illness. Born in Sunderland, MA, Sophie was raised on a farm with no electricity or indoor plumbing in Amherst, MA. In her early adult life she lived and worked in NYC and Detroit before settling in Hartford, CT where she met her husband Charlie and raised a family. She worked for many years as an executive secretary for the postmaster of Hartford. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as strong and opinionated, loving , generous and quick to lend support. Sophie loved to cook, bake, sing, laugh and have a good time.
Calling hours are at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford on Friday, (Dec 29), from 4pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial, will be at 11:00 am Saturday, (Dec 30) at St Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave, Newington. Burial services directly following in the chapel of West Meadow Cemetery, 679 Willard Ave, Newington.
