Obituary for Mason Blair Ellison

Mason Blair Ellison, World War II Veteran
9/22/23 – 1/28/18
Mason was born at Harford Hospital, son of Benjamin and Fannie Ellison.
Mason grew up in Elmwood CT, and graduated from WM. H. Hall High School in 1941.
He met his wife Roberta (Mason) Ellison while growing up in Elmwood. They both attended the Elmwood Community Church (ECC) as kids, and were confirmed as members when they were teenagers. They were married at this church on May 18, 1946, just a short time after Mason completed his WW II service in the Navy. They spent 68 years together until Roberta passed away in 2014.
Mason and Roberta (Bobbie) both graduated from Springfield College in 1949, and were blessed with a baby girl (Christine Joy) just before graduation. Mason took a job in Wausau Wisconsin after graduation, and served as the Christian Education Director at the First Presbyterian Church. Their sons Jeff and Tim were new additions to the family during this time. Mason and his family moved back East in 1955 so he could pursue a degree at New York Theological Seminary. He was ordained on November 20, 1957.
Mason served as pastor at the Community Chapel of West Glens Falls, NY (this is where son Matt was born), Meriden (NH) Congregational Church, and Broadview Community Church (Hartford CT). He wrapped up a 50 year career in the ministry by serving as the Pastoral Care Minister at Immanuel Congregational Church here in Hartford.
Mason was a lifelong donor to the American Red Cross (131 pints) and worked with many colleagues from the Elmwood Community Church on numerous “work days” with Habitat for Humanity here in Hartford.
Mason was pre-deceased by his brother Milton, daughter Christine, and wife Roberta.
He has been a wonderful role model for his entire extended family, but especially for his sons (Jeff, Tim, Matt) and all his grandchildren: Ernie Bolton, Ethan Ellison, Tyler Ellison, Aaron Ellison, Zachary Ellison, David Dane, Brendan Dane, Theresa Ellison, Shatia Ellison, Javari Ellison and Rhiannon Andrews Ellison. His great grandson “Mason” Sheppard Dane, born on 8/4/16, is the newest member of the family.
In lieu of flowers: Please send contributions to the Elmwood Community Church or the Hartford Habitat for Humanity organization.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 10th (2:00 PM) at the Elmwood Community Church: 26 Newington Road West Hartford, CT
