Obituary for Ellen "Nell" Hosey (Foley)
Ellen "Nell" (Foley) Hosey, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at home, on May 16, 2018, following a brief illness.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, John O. Hosey, and her children, Noreen and her husband Paul Foley, Sean, Neil and his wife Kelly, and Katie and her husband Scott McCoy; her nine grandchildren, Shane, Brendan, Jack, Liam, James, Ellie, Oliver, Grace and Mary Kate; her two sisters, Mary Traynor, Bridie Kelliher, and brothers Michael Foley and his wife Patricia, and Timothy Foley and his wife Julie; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She is predeceased by her sister Kitty and brothers, Tom, Pat, Jerry, Johnny, Jim, and Dan.
Born April 18, 1939, in Keel, Castlemaine, County Kerry, Ireland, the 11th of twelve children of the late Daniel and Ellen (Flynn) Foley. Nell emigrated to America in 1958 and settled near her brothers and sister in the Hartford area. She worked for Aetna and then The Hartford Insurance Company before retiring to spend time with her grandchildren, at which time she became an avid golfer and rarely missed an opportunity to play, or a fairway for that matter.
Nell was active in supporting the House of Bread through the years. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The House of Bread, 27 Chestnut St, Hartford, CT 06120. "Smile, Breathe, Go Slowly."
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, (May 19), 11:00 am at the Church of St. Helena, Echo Lane, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. There are no calling hours.
