Obituary for Richard T Gagne Jr.

Richard T. Gagne, Jr. of Avon, son of Joan and Richard T. Gagne of New Britain, died on Wednesday, May 16. Besides his parents, he leaves his daughter, Stephanie Lynne Gagne, also of Avon, three sisters, Annmarie Gagne (Julie Fenster) of Bloomfield, Lori Gagne Pendleton (Guy) of Old Saybrook, and Dianna Lemay (Paul) of East Haddam. He also leaves two nephews Noel and Shane Gagne Lemay.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Joseph.
Rich graduated from Conard High School. After running his own furniture refinishing business, he joined his father as a Manufacturer’s Representative serving several mid-west companies selling to aircraft industries including Pratt & Whitney, General Electric and Sikorsky.
He was a former member of the Golf Club of Avon and enjoyed and excelled at the game of golf until his many back surgeries forced him to retire from both golf and work. He was an avid NY Giants fan and watching the Sunday games with Joe was a ritual. He also loved boating and fishing on Long Island Sound where he spent many happy summers at Hawk’s Nest Beach in Old Lyme. His family was the center of his universe.
Under his gruff exterior there was a soft spot which included making sure the birds and deer were fed throughout the winter months. He was a dog-lover all of his life and leaves his special German Shepherd, Penny, behind.
There will be a Memorial Mass to celebrate his life on Tuesday, May 22, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield, CT. There are no calling hours and burial will be private.
