Obituary for Douglas R. Johnson

Douglas R. Johnson, 91, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Cecilia (Walsh) Johnson, died Friday, February 28, 2014. Born in Hartford, he was a graduate of Hall High School, West Hartford, Class of 1941. Doug was a WWII veteran, having served in the 9th Air Force. In 1947, along with his father and brother they started the D & R Johnson Construction Corp. which was in business for 37 years. He was an active member of the Golf Club of Avon and the Central Baptist Church, Hartford. He was also a member of the West Hartford Squares, the Wyllys Lodge, #99 and served as past president of the West Hartford Kiwanis Club. Besides his wife, Doug is survived by a step-son, John T; seven nephews and a niece. He was predeceased by a son, a daughter, two brothers and three sisters. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, (March 7), 11:00 am at the Central Baptist Church, 457 Main St., Hartford. Parking is available in the back of the Church. Visitation will be prior the Memorial Service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Baptist Church or the VNA Healthcare Hospice, 999 Asylum Ave., Hartford, CT 06105.
