Helen M.  Griffin (Moriarty)
Helen M. Griffin, 99, of West Hartford passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on April 7, 2017. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 17, 1918, the daughter of the late Maurice and Katherine (O’Connor) Moriarty. Helen was married to her beloved husband, Maurice J. Griffin for 61 years until his passing in 2014.
She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and went on to work for the federal government including the War Department during World War II. She moved to Hartford when she married and she lived in West Hartford for the past 52 years. She was a communicant of St. Brigid’s Parish.
Helen worked for the Town of West Hartford – Assessor’s Office after she raised her family. She loved her family, she loved life, and she loved Cape Cod, the Boston Red Sox and her Irish heritage. She lived in her own home until last week.
She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Griffin and her husband David Wilkinson of Franklin, Massachusetts, her daughter Maureen Griffin and her grandchildren Aaron and Elise Testa. She also leaves many loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her dear caregivers, Katie and Sara for their compassionate care which allowed her to continue to live at home.
Calling hours will be on Monday, April 10th starting at 9:30 am at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am by her nephew, Father Thomas Griffin at St. Brigid Church, 1088 New Britain Avenue. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hartford Hospital, Attn: Fund Development, 80 Seymour Street, Hartford, CT 06102.
