Robert A. "Bob" McCaffrey
Robert "Bob" McCaffrey, 53 years young, unexpectedly entered into heaven on August 25, 2017 in Charleston, South Carolina. Born and raised in West Hartford, he graduated from Conard High School and then entered the U.S. Air Force. After seven years of service, he moved to Atlanta, GA and went to work for the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team. He then worked for the Gwinnett Gladiators in GA. Bob came back north to work for the Connecticut Whale and the Manchester Monarchs in New Hampshire. In 2012, Bob relocated to Charleston, SC, to work for the South Carolina Stingrays. He had a love for hockey, golf, and Notre Dame. He was very involved with Relay for Life everywhere he worked. Bob was an organ donor and also a Shriner.
Bob is the cherished son of Barbara and Jim McCaffrey of West Hartford. He is also survived by a sister, Karen Poulin and her spouse; his niece, nephew and special grand-niece Katie all of Torrington; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends throughout the country, also including the Morander family.
Those who knew Bob would agree he was a very generous man, always smiling, laughing, full of life with many stories to share.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Helen and Bruno Curylo and his paternal grandparents, Mary and Kenneth McCaffrey.
Funeral procession will be Friday, (Sept. 1), 9:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Life Story for Robert A. "Bob" McCaffrey

Today is a very sad day as the Stingrays lost a valuable and loyal member of our organization with the passing of Bob McCaffrey. Bob joined the Stingrays in 2012 and quickly became one of our hardest and most passionate workers. He loved the Rays! For the last eight weeks, Bob fought courageously and met his chemotherapy and radiation treatments head on. He was determined to beat cancer. Today was Bob’s last day of treatment. Our staff was getting ready to go surprise him at the hospital and help him ring the bell when we got the news. Bob loved golf and all of New England’s sports teams. He participated in the Jerry Zucker Ride for Hope, the Cooper River Bridge Run and assisted with the annual Deputy Joe Matuskovic Memorial Hockey Game. Bob had a contagious personality and many Rays fans gravitated to him. On most game nights Bob could be found in the box office assisting with will call. I will miss his smile and our talks. The office and Coliseum will not be the same without Bob. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob and his family in Connecticut during this difficult time. He will be missed.

Stingrays President
