Condolence: My deepest condolences are with the McClay family, I am so sorry for your loss.

I have known George for over 10 years now through basketball refereeing. George was my very first partner for my very first basketball game. I will never forget the kindness he showed me that day and the patience he gave. From refereeing my first basketball game to all those fun Sunday afternoon CYO league games, George will always hold a special place in my heart. He truly impacted my life and I am so blessed to have been able to know him.

God Bless and Rest In Peace George

Condolence: My sincere condolences to George’s family. He was my basketball coach at SBS (Class of ‘81) and I look back on those years with so many wonderful memories.

George taught us so many things both on and off the court. I still cringe (and laugh) when I think back to his halftime speeches after we gave less than our best effort during the first half! We learned to take pride in
our play but above all to play with class, win or lose.

Many years later, as an adult, I ran into him and he remembered me by
name right away. He was truly a class act and a great guy. RIP, Coach.

Condolence: I am sorry to hear of the passing of George. We met in the late 1950s, we hung out regularly, played sports, went to the races, we even had paper routes where we met daily to pick up papers. Over the last 10 years I was involved with SK modified racing at Stafford springs. Every Spring and Fall at the pit party George would come over and visit, after our race was over I would go sit in the stands with George and friends and catch up on our lives and family. I will miss George. Forever Best Friend.

Sorry to hear about the passing of George. Our fondest memories are the bus trips we were on with the both of you and the New Years Eves that we spent with you at the Fernwood. We know that George is up in heaven coaching basketball and baseball.

Love, Barbara and Jim Welch

Condolence: Dear Maureen & family,

I was so sorry to read in the Courant of George's passing. As I am traveling, I won't be able to attend his services, but I wanted you to know how much I cherished his friendship. He was my first friend when my family moved to West Main Street in New Britain back in 1958. My brother Bob and I spent many hours with him playing baseball & basketball & football. Please pass along my condolences to his brothers, Gerry & Paul.

Condolence From: John Steniger - St. Brigid's Class of 1990
Condolence: George was our basketball coach. No matter how good or bad we were, we never felt bad about ourselves; Coach always told us that how we carried ourselves, how we played the game, was more important than whether we won or lost. Everyone played, and everyone got a chance. That's a lesson that never left me, even all these years later. God Bless you, Kaireen, Kevin, Brendan and Maureen. He will be sorely missed.
